Miscarriage Charm, Glass Apple Seed charm or pendant on a looped copper wire stem. Includes either two jump rings or a lobster clasp. You may also choose between Sterling Silver and 14/20 Gold-Filled as the metal for your fastener(s). The apple seed itself is about life-sized (about 6-7mm high). That's about 1/4 inch long (not including the stem), which it is the expected size of a baby in utero at 5 weeks of development. The jump rings or lobster clasp will actually be larger than the apple seed itself. No chain of any kind is included. Your jewelry will be carefully packed with biodegradable plant fiber inside a 100% recycled paper gift box with a stretch bow.
"Your baby is the size of an apple seed." These words appear on many popular internet pregnancy calendars to describe the 5 weeks stage of development. This charm can be a sensitive keepsake for yourself or for another woman who is grieving the loss of an infant at 5 weeks due to miscarriage or other complications.
Fastening Options:
The Charm does NOT include a chain, but it comes with your choice of fastening options:
One option consists of two open jump rings. The smaller 4mm jump ring can be used for attaching your charm to a chain-style charm bracelet or key chain as shown in the fourth picture. The larger 8mm jump ring can be used to make your charm into a pendant by slipping it over your favorite neck chain as shown in the fifth picture. Or you can slip it over a European-style charm bracelet for stringing big-hole beads. For instructions on how to correctly open and close the jump rings to attach your charm to a jewelry piece, see this YouTube video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2OihVBhCes Printed instructions will also be enclosed in your package.
For the other option I replace the jump rings with a 9mm teardrop-shaped lobster clasp, as shown the the third picture. That way your charm will arrive ready to clip onto a link of your charm bracelet or neck chain with no tools needed. NOTE: Apple seeds are tiny - the apple seed charm will actually be a little smaller than the lobster clasp.
The apple seed itself is quite small and simple. Keep in mind that the item price also must include:
the time to package your order and keep records for tax purposes;
the cost of the packing and shipping boxes;
the cost to ship it free within the United States, and
the sales commission and credit card processing fees I will have to pay to Etsy to process your order.
Multiple Items:
If you order several items from my Shop, they will be packed inside the same gift box to avoid waste. If you are ordering gifts for multiple persons and you do need separate gift boxes, please let me know in the Notes section of your order in the Shopping Cart.
About Shipping:
I shipping most orders in 1-3 business days. Free shipping in the US is via USPS First Class Parcel Service (now called Ground Advantage) which takes 2-5 business days. If you need your package sooner, an upgrade to Priority Mail or Express Mail can be purchased during Checkout. If you need more certainty, Message me to discuss options for UPS 2-day and Next Day Air. A signature will be required for orders valued over $500. If it's inconvenient to sign for packages at your home address, during checkout you can provide the address of another place where someone will be available to sign - perhaps at your work or the home of a trusted friend.
The Nature of Mother Nature
Almost nothing in nature is completely round, smooth or even, so I avoid making my glass fruit and leaves too perfectly. I put on little splotches and speckles, make them a tidbit lopsided, and add other small imperfection so that each berry or leaf is unique. This makes them look much more real.
Process and Materials:
These glass apple seed beads are individually handmade by me from colored glass rods in the flame of a torch. The glass is melted directly onto the copper wire stem using only heat, surface tension, gravity and simple tools.
Sustainability:
The packaging for your order has been reduced as much as possible while still preventing glass breakage. Everything that's left is made from recycled, sustainable or repurposed materials. Brown packing tape can be recycled right along with the cardboard boxes and paper inserts or filler. The organic Kapok fiber padding inside your gift box will biodegrade, but not fast enough for curbside composting. Please put that in your regular trash. Even the red stretch ribbon on your gift box (which also goes in regular trash) was bought at a second-hand shop and repurposed! :)
Photography:
The photos above are representative of the glass fruit charms I make in this style. The charm you receive will be similar to, but not exactly the same as, the one shown above. There will be some minor variations in the shape, size and color patterns of each bead.
